Eager EffortsRead Ephesians 2:1-10
Ephesians 2:1-10 (NRSV)
You were dead through the trespasses and sins in which you once lived, following the course of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work among those who are disobedient. All of us once lived among them in the passions of our flesh, following the desires of flesh and senses, and we were by nature children of wrath, like everyone else. But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ--by grace you have been saved-- and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God-- not the result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.
We are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works.
--Ephesians 2:10 (NRSV)
ONE spring my wife and I planted gardenias. "We'll help," said our two young sons. We gave them trowels, and they began digging. Before we knew it, they were off playing with their toys, leaving a few shallow holes in the dirt. Of course we didn't mind. Actually, we were pleased by their effort. But if I'd hired a landscaping firm to plant those gardenias, I'd have been upset. "You won't get paid until it's done right," I might have said. That thought reminded me of the difference between serving as a response to God's grace and love and serving in an attempt to earn these gifts of God with our works. It's the difference between the eager offerings that children give their parents and the anxious toil that workers may do for their employer. Our position in our Father's house is secure. Even if our good works are mixed with the remnants of sin and the best we can do is dig shallow holes for the Almighty, God is pleased with our effort. When we look for salvation in God's grace and not in our own good deeds, we are free to offer joyful service. |

Read Psalm 86:8-17
The psalmist wrote,
" Teach me your way, O LORD,
and I will walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name. "
-- Psalm 86:11 (NIV)
My parents live in Hong Kong. During my first visit, my mother informed me of various cultural practices I needed to know about. "When you hand someone something," she said, "using only one hand is considered rude. Always hold it with both hands." I thought this would be easy but found that holding objects with both hands is difficult -- both to remember and to do. I'm a fan of multi-tasking and take pride in my ability to do a gazillion things at once. But when i was required to pass my purchase or my business card or my money with both hands, multi-tasking had to stop. Because my hands could hold only one thing, I was forced to give this action all of my attention. THis made me think about how I sometimes come to God with my "hands" full of many things. I may put down whatever I'm grasping in one hand, but the other keeps clutching some worldly matter -- dividing my attention and my heart. What i offer as worship comes from a distracted mind and heart, which, when I think about it, really isn't worship at all. To worship truly, I must come to God with my whole heart, offered with two hands.

A simple act, illustrates 100% focus and commitment.
"Jesus replied, " No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God." - Luke 9:62
God demands our 100% focus and commitment as we follow Him everyday. How are we following Him today?
Food for thought:
- How am I offering my attention to God today? During my Quiet Time? Sunday Service? Prayer?
- What are 'these distractions' I would need to put down as I come before the Lord everyday? Handphone, Online Activities, Anxieties, etc. ...

Please do take a look at the lyrics of this song, the lyrics is really meaningful.
Lyrics:- Doreen
Verse 1
Now Hollywood wants to make you think they know what love is. But I'm a tell you what true love is. Love is not what you see in the movies. Its not the ecstasy, its not what you see in that scene, you know what I mean? I'm telling you right now, true love is sacrifice. Love is thinking about others before you think about yourself, love is selfless not selfish. Love is God and God is love. Love is when you lay down your life for another, whether for your brother, your mother, your father or your sister, its even laying down your life for your enemies, that's unthinkable, but think about that. Love is true. Think.
Chorus:
I'll put you in front of me
So everybody can see
My love, this is my love
I know that I'll be alright
As long as you are my guide
My love, this is my love
Verse 2
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, it always perseveres.
Love never fails. Love is everlasting, its eternal, it goes on and on, it goes beyond time, love is the only thing that will last when you die, but ask the question why? Do you have love?
Chorus
Verse 3
There is no greater love than this than he who lays down his life for his friends. Now are you willing to lay down your life for your friends? You're probably willing to lay down your life for your mother, your father, or your best friends, but are you willing to lay down your life for even those that hate you? I'm going to tell you who did that, the definition of love is Jesus Christ. He is love. The nails in his hands, the thorns in his brow, hanging on a cross for your sin my sins, that is LOVE he died for you and me while we still hated him, that is love. God is true love, and if you don't know this love, now is the time to know, perfect love.
Chorus
